Tupaia ialah genus tupai muncung dalam keluarga Tupaiidae yang julung kali digambarkan oleh Thomas Stamford Raffles pada 1821.[1][2] Nama genus ini terbit daripada perkataan Melayu tupai yang merujuk kepada tupai sebenar atau binatang lain yang mirip.[3]
Pengelasan
[sunting | sunting sumber]Ketika Diard dan Duvaucel menggambarkan spesimen sulung tupai muncung besar, Tupaia glis pada 1820, mereka menganggapnya spesies Sorex.[4] T. everetti dimasukkan kembali ke dalam genus ini daripada Urogale, yang kemudian dibubarkan berdasarkan filogeni molekul 2011.[5]
