Ralph Nathaniel Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes (IPA: [reɪf faɪnz]), lahir 22 Disember 1962), ialah seorang pelakon dari England, United Kingdom.

Beliau memenangi Anugerah Tony 1995 atas lakonannya sebagai Hamlet on Broadway. Lakonannya sebagai Amon Göth dalam filem drama sejarah Schindler's List (1993) meraih seberapa calonan terpuji termasuk Anugerah Akademi untuk Pelakon Pembantu Lelaki Terbaik dan Anugerah Golden Globe untuk Pelakon Pembantu Lelaki Terbaik – Filem sambil memenangi Anugerah BAFTA untuk Pelakon Pembantu Terbaik; begitu juga dengan lakonannya sebagai László Almásy dalam The English Patient (1996).

Belau duta cawangan UK untuk UNICEF sejak 1999 dan Sekutu Terhormat (Honorary Associate) London Film School.^[1] Beliau menerima Anugerah Stanislavsky 2019 atas sumbangannya kepada bidang filem.^[2]

Biografi

Awal hidup

Ralph lahir di Ipswich, Suffolk, England pada 22 Disember 1962; beliau anak sulung enam adik-beradik hasil perkahwinan Mark Fiennes (1933–2004), seorang jurugambar anak taikun industri besi Maurice Fiennes (1907–1994), dan Jennifer Lash (1938–1993), seorang penulis .^[3] anak Brig. Henry Alleyne Lash (1901–1975). Beliau berketurunan kacukan Inggeris, Ireland dan Scotland.^[4] Beliau sepupu kelapan Putera Charles,^[5] serta sepupu ketiga Ranulph Fiennes, seorang peneroka, dan William Fiennes, seorang penulis.^[6]

The Fiennes family moved to Ireland in 1973, living in West Cork and County Kilkenny for some years. Fiennes was educated at St Kieran's College for one year, followed by Newtown School, a Quaker independent school in County Waterford. They moved to Salisbury in England, where Fiennes finished his schooling at Bishop Wordsworth's School. He went on to pursue painting at Chelsea College of Art before deciding that acting was his true passion.^[7]

Kerjaya lakonan

Ralph Fiennes berlatih di Akademi Seni Drama DiRaja dan kemudian menyertai Royal Shakespeare Company pada tahun 1988.

Fiennes mula berlakon pada tahun 1992 sebagai Heathcliff dalam Wuthering Heights disamping Juliette Binoche. Tetapi hanya setahun kemudian dia dikenali ramai, apabila melakonkan watak komander kem Nazi, Amon Göth dalam filem arahan Steven Spielberg, Schindler's List.

Pada tahun 1994, dia melakonkan watak akademik Amerika, Charles Van Doren dalam Quiz Show, dan pada tahun 1996, dia dicalonkan untuk kategori Pelakon Lelaki Terbaik Anugerah Academy bagi filem epik romantis Perang Dunia II The English Patient.

Kerjaya pembikinan filem

Beliau menceburi bidang pembikinan dengan filem pertamanya iaitu Coriolanus (2011), saduran pementasan berjudul sama karya William Shakespeare di mana beliau juga melakonkan watak utama tersebut.

Fiennes sebagai Lord Voldemort dalam *Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire* (2005).
