Orang Tharu adalah kumpulan etnik pribumi di Terai di selatan Nepal dan utara India.^[4]^[5]^[6] Mereka bertutur dalam Bahasa Tharu.^[7] Mereka diakui sebagai nasionaliti rasmi oleh Kerajaan Nepal.^[8] Di Terai India, mereka tinggal terutamanya di Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh dan Bihar. Kerajaan India mengiktiraf orang Tharu sebagai suku India yang dijadualkan.^[9]^[10]
