Chamaebatia juga dikenali sebagai mountain misery, adalah genus yang terdiri daripada dua spesies pokok renek aromatik yang endemik kepada California. Nama biasa Inggerisnya berasal dari pengalaman penduduk awal dengan keadaan padat dan getahnya yang melekit serta berbau kuat.^[1]^[2] Mereka adalah actinorhizal, bukan legum yang mampu nitrogen fixation melalui simbiosis dengan actinobacterium, Frankia.^[3]^[4]
